Jonathan Ping

Bio

Jonathan Ping is an Associate Professor at Bond University. He is a graduate of the University of Melbourne and received his PhD from the University of Adelaide. He is a political economist who specialises in the study of statecraft. In this area he has developed the first unifying theory of the middle power concept — hybridisation theory — as presented in his book Middle Power Statecraft. His work on statecraft has most recently been applied to China in the books China’s Strategic Priorities and Chinese Engagements. His current research focus is on great power statecraft theory, middle power statecraft theory, and a theory of the nature of hegemony in and from Asia. He is Founder and a Director of the East Asia Security Centre. He has worked and undertaken research for government and non-government sectors. Dr Ping teaches courses on Political Economy, Asia and Security at Bond University.
