Hema Narang is an independent researcher and has completed her PhD from School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her thesis is a comparative study of increasing soft power capabilities of China and India in Africa. She was a visiting fellow at Harvard University Centre for African Studies and Harvard Yenching Institute, 2019-20. She also briefly taught at the Department of East Asian Studies, Delhi University.
