Bio

Eric Lai is research fellow at Georgetown Center for Asian Law (GCAL) and an associate fellow at the Hong Kong Studies Hub of the University of Surrey. He received his Ph.D degree in law at SOAS University of London in 2022. His research on law, politics and human rights in Hong Kong and China appear in academic journals, including the Hong Kong Law Journal, Communist and Post-communist Studies and the Journal of Asian and African Studies, as well as digital platforms such as the Diplomat, Lawfare and the Conversation.

The East Asia Forum office is based in Australia and EAF acknowledges the First Peoples of this land — in Canberra the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people — and recognises their continuous connection to culture, community and Country.
