Bio

Gary Clyde Hufbauer is non-resident Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute of International Economics. Hufbauer was the Institute’s Reginald Jones senior fellow from 1992 to January 2018. Hufbauer has held multiple positions such as the Maurice Greenberg chair and director of studies at the Council on Foreign Relations (1996–98) and the Marcus Wallenberg professor of international finance diplomacy at Georgetown University (1985–92). Hufbauer was the deputy director of the International Law Institute at Georgetown University from 1979–81 and deputy assistant secretary for international trade and investment policy of the United States Treasury from 1977–79. Hufbauer was the director of the international tax staff at the Treasury from 1974–76. Hufbauer holds a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard College, a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Centre and a PhD in Economics from King’s College at Cambridge.
