Gary Hawke is a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand and a member of the Academic Advisory Council of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia. Currently serving as Emeritus Professor at Victoria University of Wellington, Hawke retired as the head of the School of Government and professor of economic history in 2008. Notably, he was honored with the NZIER-Qantas Prize in Economics in New Zealand in 1998. Hawke's academic journey includes obtaining a D.Phil from the University of Oxford.
